What is PCOS?
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common hormonal condition involving irregular ovulation, raised androgens and often insulin resistance. It can cause irregular cycles, acne, unwanted hair, weight changes and difficulty conceiving. Several different patterns sit under the one name, which is why testing matters.
WHAT IT CAN LOOK LIKE
When the label does not explain your body.
Two women with PCOS can need opposite plans. Around seven in ten have insulin resistance, whatever their weight, and many are told to lose weight or take the pill and little else. The pill can quiet the skin and bleeding without changing insulin or ovulation. Finding your pattern, steadying fuel without starving the ovary, and building muscle change what drives it.
Cycles longer than 35 days, or no periods
Acne along the jaw and chin
Unwanted hair, or thinning at the crown
Blood sugar crashes and cravings
Weight that gathers at the waist, or lean PCOS
Difficulty conceiving
HOW I WORK WITH FERTILITY AND PRECONCEPTION
Read the pattern. Restore the balance.
Your symptoms are how your body asks for what it needs. I read the pattern behind them, then choose herbs and nutrients the same way: matched to that pattern, to ease the disharmony, calm the nervous system and rebuild your reserves, so your body can come back into balance and heal.
01
Read the pattern
Insulin, androgens, LH and FSH, thyroid and cycle tracking, read through Endobiogeny to find which pattern of PCOS is yours.
02
Calm the nervous system
The stress response raises androgens and blood sugar, so it is part of the plan from the start.
03
Ease the disharmony
Herbs and nutrients matched to your type: steadying blood sugar, balancing androgens and supporting regular ovulation.
04
Build reserves
Strength, steady meals, sleep and rhythm, so the changes hold over time.
WHAT TO TEST
The results that change the plan.
Testing shows which pattern is leading, so the plan fits you.
Fasting insulin and glucose
With HbA1c. Insulin often rises years before glucose.
Testosterone, SHBG and free androgen index
With DHEA-S for the adrenal pattern.
LH and FSH
Day 2 to 5. The pituitary signal to the ovaries.
Mid-luteal progesterone
Shows whether ovulation happened.
Thyroid panel and prolactin
Often overlooked, and ruled out first.
17-hydroxyprogesterone
Early morning, day 2 to 5, to rule out non-classic adrenal hyperplasia.
CRP, vitamin D, lipids and liver function
The wider metabolic picture.

No. They are follicles that paused before ovulating.
-
That is a decision with your GP. It controls bleeding and skin but does not change insulin or ovulation. Naturopathic care can work alongside it or without it.
-
Repeated dieting can backfire. Muscle, sleep and steady fuel come first, and weight often follows.
-
Most women can, often with support for ovulation. Preparing three months ahead helps egg quality.
-
Often, yes, with care. Every herb is checked against your medicines and shared with your doctor.
